Dear Proana Girls,

Being skinny won’t change the way you feel about yourself, it wont stop you hating the way you look, in fact you’ll just find something else that you deem “wrong” with you. Reality is,you’re pretty. But you’d be even prettier if you loved yourself for who you are. Confidence is what makes a person; beautiful, pretty and attractive not the size of your waist or the amount of calories you’ve consumed that day.

As a girl, I understand what it feels like to want to look perfect, and for years I hated the way I looked just as much as you do but not because I was ”fat” but because I was too thin,despite the fact I eat more then anyone I know, I couldnt, and still cant, gain weight and for me, that was the end of the world. Every single person in the world at some point in their lives feels insecure about the way they look, and for most people they get that feeling EVERYDAY. Its normal and expected for teenagers to experience that but starving yourself won’t help.

Despite me disagreeing with what you do to yourselves, your patience and determination to your “cause” is in a sick way inspirational and at the same time incredibly sad. If you put the same effort, hard work and thought into a hobby or a passion as you do to your desire to be skinny, you’d become anything you wanted to be. And that is nearly as sad as your desire to starve yourself to death.

I don’t expect anyone to listen or even agree but in the words of Edmund Burke
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”.
